Grant for the development of protected areas

At the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Grant agreement was signed by the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Levan Davitashvili and representative of UNDP Program, Mrs. Munkhtuya Antargerel.
The grant 9,785,000 USD is allocated in order to strengthen capacity of protected areas. Agency of Protected Areas will receive 1,826,484 GEL by GEF.
The project aims to strengthen following 12 protected areas: Borjom-Kharagauli National Park, Lagodekhi Protected Areas, Vashlovani Protected Areas, Tusheti Protected Areas, Mtirala National Park, Javakheti Protected Areas, Kazbegi National Park, Algeti National Park, Kintrishi Protected Areas, Machakhela National Park, Pshav-Khevsureti Protected Areas.
The above grant will facilitate to strengthen protected areas’ financial situation. In the frame of the project, consulting activities will be done and strategic document will be created. The project aims to support local population as well.
The project will last 5 years by the support of GEF, UNDP, CNF and Bank of Georgia.
