Members of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia visited Machakhela National Park
Within the framework of the information visit, the committee members visited the modern visitor center of Machakhela National Park, got acquainted with the activities of Machakhela National Park both in terms of protection/conservation of unique biodiversity and ecotourism development;
They also visited the protected landscape of Machakhela, which was created last year and will contribute to the protection of traditional agricultural activities, and the implementation of recreational and tourist activities, which will positively affect the socio-economic situation of the local population.
Machakhela National Park is one of the popular protected areas in Georgia, distinguished by its unique nature, which is a visible example of the harmonious coexistence of the system of protected areas and the local population.
The Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Khelvachauri Municipality, the local population of the Machakhela Gorge, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF) are significantly involved in the development process of Machakhela protected areas, together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Agency of Protected Areas.
Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas, Davit Iosebashvili, Chairperson of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Maia Bitadze, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Davit Gabaidze, Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Zaza Shavadze attended the information session.
