Statement of Price Changes concerning Eco-touristic Products

In 2017, compared to the previous year, the number of Protected Areas’ visitors has increased by 35%. A significant increase of tourists were at Martvili and Okatse Canyons as well as at Prometheus and Sataplia Caves.
Of course we are delighted that protected areas’ popularity has increased, for what we are trying our best. However, it has to be mentioned that the number of visitors’ exceeds the permissible limit, all above has significant influence on natural monuments and there is the risk of the natural monuments deteriorating. For Example, Prometheus Cave had visited by 2300 visitors in a day, while cave’s maximum capacity is to host 2,000 visitors. Martvili Canyon is much more overloaded rather than Prometheus Cave, while it is visited by more than 3000 visitors in a day. Visitors’ significant growth caused obstructions and deterioration of service delivery, all above contradicts as the interests of the Agency of Protected Areas as well as the visitors.
Due to the existing situation, by the decision of the Agency, service fee will be increased at several protected areas. From now on, differentiated prices will be launched for Georgian and Foreign citizens in accordance with internationally accepted practice. Increased incomes will be consumed for infrastructure development, improvement of services and quality.
Price growth will not concern to the tourist agencies with them the agency has a contract. Existing prices remain in force until the expiry of these agreements.
