Year:

Lagodekhi State Nature Reserve is located in Lagodekhi Municipality, Kakheti region, Georgia. It extends across the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range, in the northeasternmost part of the country. The reserve encompasses the watersheds of the Matsimistskali, Lagodekhistskali, Shromistskali and Baisubani rivers. Its northern boundary coincides with the state border between Georgia and Dagestan, while its eastern boundary follows the Matsimistskali River, which forms part of the state border between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The establishment of Lagodekhi State Nature Reserve is associated with the Polish naturalist Ludwik Młokosiewicz. The primary purpose of the reserve was to protect, preserve and scientifically study the unique, undisturbed ecosystems on the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range, including pristine beech and hornbeam forests and rare species of flora and fauna.

Nowadays Lagodekhi State Nature Reserve covers a total area of 19,755 hectares.
