The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze, together with the Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas, Davit Iosebashvili, and the Deputy Chairperson, Tamar Khakhishvili, were on an official visit to the Republic of Korea.
Within the framework of the visit, the parties discussed technical support initiatives for Georgia, along with the opportunity of inclusion in the official development assistance program (ODA), which includes funding up to $6 million from the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
Official Development Assistance (ODA) is a government aid program aimed at developing countries' economic development and prosperity.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia have been effectively working for years to bolster international support for protected areas, which, in addition to financial support, consists of sharing the best practice and experiences and introducing them to the protected areas of Georgia.
It should be highlighted that a few months ago, the Korean delegation was on a working visit to Georgia. Within the framework of the visit, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the parties. It comprises the management of protected areas with the best international experience, protection, and conservation of natural heritage.
In recent years, the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia and the Korea National Park Service (KNPS) have close cooperation.
Within the framework of the mentioned cooperation, crucial events were carried out. It should be pointed out that a joint photo exhibition of Georgian-Korean national parks was organized in Algeti National Park; the National Parks of Korea handed over 200 radio phone to the
protected areas of Georgia in order to improve ranger patrolling. These and other events laid the foundation for partnership relations between the two countries in the direction of environmental protection.
