Mountain Biking Tour of Tusheti National Park
Mountain Biking Tour of Tusheti National Park
On September 6-8th, 2013, a mountain biking tour, organized by the Agency of Protected Areas, was held at the Tusheti National Park.
On the first day, 18 amateur cyclists covered a distance of 57 km starting from the village of Lechuri and ending at the administrative center of Tusheti in the village of Omalo. Additionally, they successfully cycled over the 2950 m high Abano Pass – one of the most difficult road sections in Georgia. It should be noted that this was the first cycling tour of this size on such difficult terrain. Georgian cyclists had never previously attempted traversing this terrain.
The tour was symbolic in its nature and aimed to raise awareness and popularize the Protected Areas, as well as promote the value of living an active and healthy lifestyle to Georgian society.
