Kokoleti Trail
(15 km, integrated with a motor road, moderate difficulty)
Trail Description:
The route starts from the Visitor Center and leads toward the village of Kvemo Kokolety.
After following the village road for about 9 km, the path continues for another 6 km through a Colchic-type forest, consisting of mixed deciduous and coniferous trees. The trail ends at a viewpoint, from which visitors can see the Camili Biosphere Reserve (a protected area in Turkey) and the six historic villages of Upper Machakhela.
On the Turkish side, villages located in the branching valley of the river form the shape of a palm and fingers, which, according to legend, inspired the name “Machakhela” (derived from “Majakheli”).
About 1.2 km from the viewpoint, there are picnic and camping areas designed for visitors wishing to spend the night in nature. The area features a tropical-forest-like environment, rich wildlife, and a cold spring.
If desired, visitors can rent camping equipment at the Visitor Center.
The route returns along the same path to the village of Kvemo Kokolety.
