Algeti National Park

Located just one hour from Tbilisi, Algeti National Park is an excellent destination for spending time with friends.

Along with enjoying the views of the Algeti River valley and the mixed forest-covered mountains, you can also visit the natural monuments of Dashbashi, Birtvisi, and Samshvilde Canyons, as well as explore the Kldekari Fortress.

Algeti State Reserve was established in 1965 to protect the southeastern boundary of the distribution area of eastern spruce and Caucasian fir. In 2007, it was granted the status of a national park.

Ecotourism Routes

Currently, there are five eco-tourism routes in Algeti National Park, both horseback and hiking trails. Among them, only one trail is marked – the “Royal Ridge” trail. This 16 km circular route starts in the town of Manglisi, continues through Martalkhevi (where there is a picnic area), and reaches the village of Didi Namtvriani. From there, it returns to Manglisi via the “Royal Ridge.” From the viewpoints along the trail, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Algeti National Park’s valley and the forest-covered mountainous landscape. On the way, you may encounter deer, hare, wild boar, and various species of wild birds.

In and around Algeti National Park, there are numerous ancient and medieval historical-cultural monuments. The natural monuments of Dashbashi, Samshvilde, and Birtvisi are particularly attractive.

In the yard of the Algeti National Park Visitor Center, you’ll find the eco-tourism attraction “Rope Park” – an educational and entertaining place set in nature. It includes two zones: a family zone and a youth zone, with 10 and 14 different obstacles, respectively.

Biodiversity

The territory of the park is situated at an elevation of 1,100–1,950 m above sea level and stands out for its landscape and biological diversity. Relict forests add to its special appeal. The park contains representatives of various botanical and geographical regions, including Colchic, Hyrcanian, Iberian, Caucasian, and Asia Minor flora. One of the park’s highlights is a 900-year-old mountain oak, known as the “Patriarch Oak.” Dense groves of mountain oak are also common throughout the area.
